If you haven't read the 27 Ennin Mysteries before this one -- shame on you!! You're missing out on an excellent Japanese detective series. Even though events and characters from earlier stories are referenced, you can read the stories in any order you'd like.In this story, as in all the others, you lean more about Ennin and his assistant, some Japanese history and never know until the end who will escape the clutches of the 'Beauty' and what her fate will be. I've only be able to guess how a crime was committed once, but I've enjoyed each and every story.

poor and such a hotch potch of people, situations and narratives. none the wiser after plodding through
Luved it
liked the way Ennin defeated this black widow. the fact that he didn't end her permanently shows that he's not totally invincible or omnicient.
Another great short story. Mr. Stevens always keeps me guessing with every mystery he writes. Yep, I'd recommend this story and really, pretty much everything written by this author.
